Bali Tourist Tax Information
The Bali Tourist Tax, also referred to as the Bali Tourism Levy, is a mandatory fee that every visitor to Bali must pay.
This levy was introduced in February 2024 by the provincial government of Bali to support the preservation of the island’s natural environment and cultural heritage.
All foreign travelers, including children, are required to pay this tax. Visitors traveling only to other parts of Indonesia are not subject to the levy.
The fee only needs to be paid once per trip. If you leave Bali to visit another region of Indonesia and then return during the same journey, you will not need to pay the tax again.
Please note that the Bali Tourist Tax is not a visa. Depending on your nationality, you may still need to apply for an Indonesian tourist visa in addition to paying the levy.
There are only a few exemptions. The tax does not apply to Indonesian citizens or foreigners with long-term residence status.
If you believe you qualify for an exemption from the Bali Tourist Levy, you must submit an exemption request before your arrival in Bali.

The Bali Tourist Levy is non-refundable. If you cancel your trip after making the payment, you cannot claim a refund. The tax is individual, meaning each traveler must pay separately, including both adults and children.
You must show your QR code upon arrival in Bali. If you travel to other parts of Indonesia and return to Bali, you do not need to pay the tax again. However, if you leave Indonesia and later return to Bali, you will need to pay the Tourist Tax again.
You can present your confirmed payment QR code at any port of entry in Bali, including Ngurah Rai International Airport and all seaports.
While the Bali Tourist Tax is mandatory for all visitors, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is a useful optional addition for those planning to explore the island by car or motorbike. With an IDP, you can navigate Bali’s scenic roads, from quiet coastal villages in the east to Lombok’s hidden beaches and Java’s volcanic landscapes, without worry. Many rental companies and local authorities prefer or require an IDP, especially if your license is not in English or Bahasa Indonesia. It also helps at police checkpoints, providing instant proof of your driving credentials. Applying is quick and easy online, with options for one, two, or three years of validity. Carrying an IDP makes your trip smoother, safer, and gives you the freedom to discover Indonesia at your own pace.
