The Saudi Arabia eVisa is a digital travel authorization that allows eligible travelers from over 60 countries to visit the Kingdom for tourism. Introduced in 2019, it was designed to simplify the visa process and support Saudi Arabia’s expanding tourism sector.

The visa policy of Saudi Arabia sets the rules and requirements for foreign nationals who wish to enter the country. It determines who can travel visa-free, who needs an electronic visa (eVisa), and who must apply for a traditional consular visa.

Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are exempt from visas and can enter Saudi Arabia freely. For other travelers, the Saudi Arabia eVisa is the simplest and most convenient option for tourism, leisure, and short-term visits. The eVisa is available to citizens of around 65 countries and territories and allows stays of up to 90 days.

A visa on arrival is also available for certain travelers, but it can involve long lines and processing times at border control. For this reason, applying for an eVisa in advance is strongly recommended.

Travelers who are not eligible for an eVisa or visa on arrival must visit a Saudi Arabian embassy or consulate to apply for a visa. This is also required for those who wish to stay longer than 90 days, or who plan to live, work, or study in Saudi Arabia.

Nationals of Israel are currently prohibited from entering the Kingdom.

Special Hajj visas are available for pilgrims traveling to Mecca during the annual Hajj season, from Mid-Shawwal to 25th Dhual-Qa’dah.

Who needs a visa for Saudi Arabia?

All travelers not covered by the GCC exemption or eligible for an eVisa or visa on arrival must obtain a visa from a Saudi embassy or consulate. This includes anyone planning to stay longer than 90 days, work, study, or reside in the country.

There are three main ways to obtain a visa:

Apply online for a Saudi Arabia eVisa for tourism or short-term visits.
Obtain a visa on arrival, if eligible, at select ports of entry.
Apply for a consular visa at a Saudi embassy or consulate for longer stays, work, study, or other purposes.

Travelers holding a valid visa or residence permit for the Schengen Area, the United States, or the United Kingdom may be eligible to obtain a visa on arrival at select Saudi entry points.

While this option is available, it is strongly recommended to apply for a Saudi eVisa online in advance. Applying ahead of time saves you waiting at the border and reduces the risk of being denied entry. The online eVisa process is quick, convenient, and ensures your travel plans go smoothly.

Citizens of around 120 countries must obtain a tourist visa in person at a Saudi Arabian embassy or consulate, as their nationality is not eligible for the eVisa or visa on arrival.

A consular visa is also required if you plan to stay in Saudi Arabia for more than 90 days, or if you intend to live, work, or study in the country.

Currently, nationals of five countries can visit Saudi Arabia without a visa. These countries are all members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), along with Saudi Arabia itself.

Visa Exemption in Special Circumstances
Generally, all other foreign nationals must obtain a visa to enter Saudi Arabia.

However, in special cases, French diplomats and certain other officials may enter Saudi Arabia visa-free, provided they travel with a diplomatic passport or an official passport.

At present, nationals of Israel are not allowed to enter Saudi Arabia. Israeli passport holders are prohibited from traveling to the Kingdom due to the ongoing Arab League boycott.

Special Rules for Qatari Citizens
Qatari nationals generally face restrictions on entering Saudi Arabia, following the suspension of diplomatic relations in 2017.

However, Qatari Muslims are permitted to enter Saudi Arabia solely to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. The Hajj takes place annually from the 8th to the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar. Outside of this period, Qatari citizens are generally not allowed to visit the country.
